Wednesday 8th August 2007

I heard this morning that the Esher News & Mail are going to publish a short article about the walk either this week or next. Let's hope this brings additional sponsorship. The Thames Path appears to be mostly walkable at present although I am waiting to hear from the Environment Agency to see if there are any problems. I know that one of the pubs I had booked to sleep in on day four has had to close for the time being because of extensive flood damage! Keeping fingers crossed.

The good news is that I already have a few people who are hoping to join me at the start. My wife Ana Maria, my daughter Celine (my son James is abroad climbing in the Swiss Alps), my nephew William Gomez Jr and his son Christopher. Also joining us will be my cousin Reg Andlaw who will be approaching his 74th birthday! So it promises to be a jolly family affair. Surrey Regional Staff from Marie Curie Cancer Care are also hoping to join me on the Surrey stretch of the river later in the week.

Keep the money rolling in you guys out there. It's for a good cause.

Today the blog goes live. I am quite new to all this and hope this works. My son James explained it all in some detail but its all double dutch to me! Anyway here goes: Firstly my thanks to all those who have sent donations. All the money goes to Marie Curie Cancer Care (MCCC) in the UK or to Research into Childhood Cancer for those donations made in Gibraltar. My thanks also to Ros Hooper and her team at MCCC for taking the time to meet with me and for their words of encouragement. I still have some to go to achieve the fundraising targets so guys please keep the cash rolling in.

My training for the walk goes well although I have encountered a small problem with my right foot. A visit to my new Podiatrist (yes I've got one of those as well!) should sort it out. I shall be in Gib on 16th and 17th August to give a boost to local fundraising there. If this works I shall try to post something new most days both before and during the walk. Wish me luck!
